Fernando Alonso’s FA Racing will join Formula Renault Eurocup in 2019, Renault Sport has revealed.
FA Racing will add Formula Renault into their department, after already competing in the Formula 4 Spanish championship, Karting and e-Sports.
The series also confirmed 9 other teams, which will compete in 2019. The machinery of the series will be getting a revamp, as it will race with regional F3 spec cars, not to forget, with the halo device.
Formula Renault 2.0 has produced many Formula 1 drivers, including McLaren backed Nyck de Vries, current McLaren driver Stoffel Vandoorne and 2019 McLaren drivers Lando Norris & Carlos Sainz.
Sainz was the winner of the Junior class in 2011, Vandoorne was champion of the series in 2012, de Vries in 2014 and Lando Norris was the last champion under the Formula Renault 2.0 name in 2016.
The 2019 winner of the series will join the Renault Sport Academy and receive financial backing from Renault.
“It’s a real honor to have FA Racing by DriveX pre-selected for the 2019 Formula Renault season. This series has provided some of my toughest competitors in F1 and this highlights its very high competitiveness level.
“After karting, e-sport and F4, Formula Renault is for FA Racing the logical step in our development. The arrival of the new car was the opportunity to start on the same level as all the teams and we are now eager to be on the starting grid to show what we are made of.
“On a more personal note, it is a great pleasure to continue my history with Renault.”
